TELIA EXPANDS ITS CONTENT DELIVERY NETWORK BY ADDING A NEW NODE IN RIGA, LATVIA
On August 28, 2017 Telia Company, in cooperation with Verizon Digital Media Services, expanded its regional presence of Telia Content Delivery Network (Telia CDN) and launched a new CDN node in Riga, Latvia.
The new node will significantly increase the capacity and reduce the latency of content delivery in the Nordic/Baltic region, which until recently was primarily served by nodes in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and to lesser extent from other nodes in Europe. The global capacity of the CDN has reached 36 Tbps with over 100 nodes in 5 continents.
Telia CDN provides Web Performance, Web Defender and Media Delivery services for website acceleration, protection and delivery of multimedia content, e.g. audio and video streaming. These services are recognized by major content streaming services and websites like HBO Europe, Fashion TV, Scandinavian Airlines and others.
The first large scale event being streamed over the new node is the currently ongoing Eurobasket 2017 Championship which is widely watched in Baltics.
The new CDN node is installed with the joint effort of Verizon Digital Media Services and Telia Latvija, the local subsidiary of Telia Company who provided data center and internet connections for the new node.
Telia Latvija has significant expertise and provides Telia CDN products and features to the customers in the Central and Eastern Europe. Telia Latvija has created the OTT video platform which uses Telia CDN for content delivery and will be showcased at IBC 2017 show in Amsterdam.
